What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

We hope that the product would be distributed by either universal studies or Dreamworks SKG. The reasons for choosing these indtitutions are that they have produced similar films in the past such as (american pie/ role models for universal and Road trip/ I love you man for SKG)

This being american based teen/buddy comidies which our product fits into these genres so it would be ideal for these institutions to distribute and produce our product.

Our made up film name

Through the creation of the film, we went under the prodcuction company, "MJ Productions", this was created through the use of Mine and Matt's first letter of our names 'M' and 'J' this allowd us to create a name which would include our names, but be short for the audience member to read easily.
I created this through Adobe After Effects which would allow me to be add title names and animate them. This introduction of the title would allow us to meet the conventions of film introductions of films, these are seen in films such as; Dreamworks, Miramax as they have a short animation which will play within the first 30 seconds of a film which they produce. This introduction would help us to appear like a main stream film although we didnot have proper distribution.

Why different companies distribute different films

For each film a different producer company will distribute the film, this is different films produce different genres of films; horror, comedy and romance as 3 examples.
Twisted films would produce and distribute horror films.
Momentum would prudce and distribute film adventures and epics.

SKG, has been picked for our film because they produce films which have a comedy style for there films, this would fit into our film because we have chosen a comedy style film which would be distributed by thiscompany. SKG was picked because they have produced and distributed the films of our style models, which means that we would be able to use them because we know what kind of film they produce.

Why SKG would suit our film
SKG would suit our film becuase they have a very wide distribution of films, this would relate to our film because we would be able to fit into this category. Although this is a broad statement the films which the company distribute are very different ranged.
Ranging from Horror Thriller "Disturbia" to "The Kite Runner", these films which SKg have endorsed and distributed would mean that would film could be placed within the scales, which would allow our film to be used by this company.

Cinema's Mainstream Vue, Odeon. Smaller business Curzon. Straight to DVD.

In the best case scenario, our film could be distributed through SKG, this would mean the film would be shown through mainstream cinema's such as Vue or Odeon, this would mean our film would be viewed nationwide or infact world wide. This would be the greats option which our film could pull off because we would get the most exposure due to adverts which would be shown within the cinema's themselves and the televsion becuase the cinema and distributor would want the most exposure for the film so they would get th emost people to come and see the film.

Smaller businesses may take on our film if it does not get the main SKG distribution, this would be done through the process of talking to the smaller businesses and hopefully getting them to agree to the showing of the film. Smaller businesses which would apply to this category is the "Curzon" which is in the South West clevdon area, this would allow the film to be shown to a generally small amount of people who may not know a lot about the genre and and would not expect the film. This would be different if the film was distributed by SKG, as the film goers who go to the main stream cinemas would know abnou the type of film which would be shown by the genre we picked.

Straight to DVD would mean film would be put into general realise and not go through the cinema option, this is because the distibutor does not think the cinema would be a good money earner within the cinema, so they would not put it through that route. Alternatly the cinema may not accept to showing the film because the DVD realse if very close to the cinema date realse, this is shown through an example of "Tim Burdens: Alice and Wonderland" The Odeon did not want to show the film because the release date for the DVD was very close so the cinema rejected the film to be played because it would not have earn them enough money.

This may be a problem for our film because the major release for the cinema may be close to the DVD release, this is because the comedy style film which we have chosen does not tend to stay within the cinema for a long time, because of other films produced, may be deemed not as good as the other films so would be replaced.

For exmaple role models did not stay long within the cinema because of the style of comedy, and the general money making prospects of the film.
Release Date; Friday 9th of January 2009
Release Date; Mar 10, 2009
The film was only in the cinema for 2 months in total, probabvly less becuase it would taken out before DVD release. This was "$92,380,927" which is generally okay for a film, comparing to Avatar which grossed "$746,659,357" staying within the cinema for considerably longer.

These differences in genres would show why I would think that our film would not stay within the cinema for a long period of time.

Over all thouoght about distribution, I feel that our film would go through "Straight to DVD" because the package would allow the film to be introduced to the market which would allow the 'true fans' to find the film without being forced and presurred to watch it by the cinema advertisements, although this would be a high drop in sales because the cinema would do a lot better at drawing in crowds.
